Settling In

We're almost completely settled in our new home. We just need to decide on where to hang the artwork. Tonight we host our first guests, before heading off to enjoy some Halloween hijinx. In honor of the occassion, I've prepared another tour.

Embracing Fall

What better way to spend a fall day than wandering through a forest in peak color?

I couldn't think of anything else either.

Last Sunday, Filiz and I drove up to the Black Forest State Park and hiked 7.5 miles, traversing Mount Misery, Hill of Pines, Rattlesnake Hill, and Black Rock Mountain. It was a day filled with peaks and valleys, steams and ponds, and glorious golden leaves.

Summer Memories

Summer lasts as long as there are photos to scrap . . .

MME Blog Challenge No. 16

Yeah! Scrapping again. But the scanner still isn't hooked up, so please accept a photograph of my layout graciously. I don't think the flowers would have scanned well anyway. It's a fabulous technique taught by Jennifer McGuire on her blog. As soon as I watched her video, ideas started pouring through my brain. One of those, was to incorporate the flower in lieu of the circles in the MME sketch, and since the challenge called for black, I decided to ink and emboss the edges of the flowers. All of the papers in this layout are MME, from various collections. I finally used my Stamping Up! brads, with MME paper as the center, and the alphas are October Afternoon and Technique Tuesday's Big Timber stamps.

My Own Island

A friend asked me how the kitchen island turned out. Very nice, in the end. But it took awhile to get there. Something like 9 or 10 hours of vague directions and trying to bore screws into hardwood by hand. But it's nice, don't you think?

The Move Begins

I'm writing from my new living room, sitting on the hardword floor, taking a break from assembling my new kitchen island. Fortunately, it was delivered early in the day, because it will take me quite awhile to put it together. The cable guy also made an early appearance, so mom can watch some tv while I plug away. A video tour of the apartment can be found here.

A New Start

Very busy. The retreat got me in the mindset to scrap, but, like everything else in my apartment, my paper is all packed up. Scrapping is on hold for a few weeks until the move is complete. In the interim, I'll sketch out layouts and order photos. And I've cast on a simple pullover sweater. A new project to go along with our new home. I'm incredibly excited that Glenn and I are building a life together.

Page Maps Sketch Contest

I took advantage of my time at the retreat to work on Page Maps' most recent sketch challenge, posted below. The layout I did was for our "friends" swap, so I left the journaling blank. Thanks for looking!

Retreat Rewards

What fun! I really enjoyed spending time with my scrapping friends last weekend, and I got so many layouts done. While I have no talent for photographing layouts, it seemed like the most economical way of getting them online, especially because some of them are very bulky.

This first is an uber-simple one, but I really like the design (although, perhaps, I should have placed the journaling up against the patterned paper). The rest of the layouts have more of my signature distressing.
