Thanksgiving Wrapup

Wow, what an exciting weekend. We drove up to mom's and ran in the Turkey Trot. It was my first 5K. I walked/ran and finished in 35.5. Glenn had me beat by far. After running we had one of mom's scrumptious meals. The next day we drove to Canada and visited with my grandfather, Frank.

All that would have been enough for one weekend, but we were anxious to get home and adopt our new family member. We only live one block from NYC's ASPCA, so that was our first stop. We met dozens of cute kitties, but decided on a beautiful one-year old calico. She's been exploring the apartment since she's gotten home. She's shaking a bit, but purring very loudly. She's found (and used) her scratching post, food and litter box. We're anxiously awaiting her discovering our laps.

Scrapbooking Ali DT Call and Some News

I have to say, I had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend.

It started out on a bittersweet note. One of my dear hiking buddies has decided to mix things up and move to Europe. Friday night, we gathered to give her a send off and let her know how much she will be missed here in NYC.

I spent a great deal of the weekend knitting and scrapping, getting a few layouts and cards together for a DT call at Scrapbooking Ali. The results of my efforts are below.

Saturday night was the highlight. Glenn and I went down to the West Village, to the restaurant where we had our first date. Afterwards, we wandered over to the corner where we had our first kiss. He kissed me tenderly, told me how much I meant to him, got down on one knee, and proposed. Off course I said "Yes!" We were basking in the moment when some guy riding by on a bicycle snarled and sarcastically said, "Ah, how sweet." I yelled right back, "Yes, it is!" The snarkiness made it a real NYC moment, and did nothing to bring us down to earth. We're both still floating.

MME Blog Challenge 17

I love that my favorite paper line does monthly sketch challenges. I used MME papers for this layout, AC Thickers, October Afternoon stickers, Fiskars and SU punches, K & Company lace edging, buttons, and dew drops. The flowers were made from stickyback canvas. Another technique I picked up on Jennifer McGuire's blog.

Three or four days a week, I drag myself out of be at 5:00 a.m. and head out into the dark cold morning to make my way down to the gym, where I spend 45 minutes to an hour hating the treadmill.

Once every week or so, Glenn and I have a leisurely breakfast, enjoying the morning, before heading off together to Central Park where we get to run on the most glorious track in the whole world.

Yes. Life is good.

It's starting to feel a lot like . . .

Christmas? hmmm . . . since it was in the 60s yesterday, maybe not. But it is getting closer. There have been a number of days blustery enough warrant bringing out my winter coat. The leaves have turned, Thanksgiving is around the corner, and they brought the tree to Rockefeller Center. All this means that it's time to get started, if you aren't already well along, on those handmade Christmas gifts. On this end, I'm happy to say the Christmas cards (a project I usually start sometime over the summer) are finally done. I have one knitted project on standby and am working on another (to be posted sometime after the holidays). I am also working on a handful of ornaments for my immediate family. I'll worry about shopping after Thanksgiving.

A Weekend in the City

Fall is quickly passing by, with winter nipping at its heals.

My best friend from high school, Kristie, came to visit last weekend and we explored the northern reaches of Central Park. Few New Yorkers venture into the North Woods or the Conservatory Gardens, but it is really worth the treck. We amused ourselves on our walk taking portraits of one another.

After a lovely afternoon nap, we headed out for an evening on the town. An indie band from Maine that I like - Now Is Now - plays in the City once or twice a year and I'm glad I got the chance to see them. Thanks to Glenn and Kristie for humoring me.

Page Maps Sisters Scrapbook Sketch Contest

This is the latest sketch contest from Page Maps.

Pagemaps 2 Sketch Contest

I'm very excited that Becky Fleck just released a new Pagemaps book. Even better, the prize for the most recent sketch contest is a copy of the book. I have to throw my hat into this ring.
