Celtic Fest

Lovely, lovely fall weekend. Glenn and I headed down to Bethlehem to have brunch with friends and check out Celtic Fest. I rather enjoyed the bagpipes, but they're not Glenn's cup of tea.

Yellow and Grey

I have been taking the Left/Right Brain class at Big Picture Classes as a way to stimulate creativity in scrapbooking. This weeks challenges involved color. One was to start with a color palette. While I adore color, it is generally not my starting point for a layout. I prefer to work from the pictures, so this was quite the challenge for me.

I trolled the internet looking at color boards (which was a very satisfying activity in itself) and settled on  a combination of yellows and greys at Oh, Hello Friend.  I found papers and laid them out, then selected my pictures (using black and white pictures, I feel like I cheated a bit here). Where I got stuck was on the embellishments.  I needed a bit more light grey, and more weight at the bottom. I thought about it the next day at work and decided I would sketch out a skyline on grey cardstock.  I ended up sketching it out on a legal pad at work and liked the result enough that I brought it home, scanned it, then spent some time in PSE removing the blue and pink gridlines from the paper. Once the sketch was cleaned up I printed to copies on light grey cardstock and painted them with watercolors, gave them a spritz of Mr. Huey's Shine, and trimmed and layered the pieces into a border.

Old Haunts, New Paths

I spent a lot of time during my adolescence at Wawawyanda State Park, just over the border in New Jersey.  On summer evenings, my family would pack a cooler and head to the park. While dad was getting a fire ready to grill, my sister and I would either head to the beach or try our hand at the sail board.   Later, I would go to the park with my mom. While she was painting, I would go for walks along the lake shore.  I've always wanted to go a bit further down the labyrinth of trails.

Today, Glenn and I hiked the six-mile Appalachian Trail/Iron Mountain Trail/Double Pond Trail loop.  It was an amazing beautiful day to be out in the woods.   Our route took us past the boathouse and the picnic grove where I spent so much time when I was younger, but most of the time we were on paths that were new to me.  I wish I had known some of these spots we discovered before.  In particular, I thought that the Kazmar Pond was lovely in its quiet isolation.

Glenn's Birthday Excursion

Looking for a quick get away, we headed to Connecticut.  We stopped at the Pez factory/museum.  It was, actually, very amusing.  Loaded up on sugar, we continued north to Mystic, grabbing a slice of heaven for lunch and drawbridge ice cream for dessert.  It was a beautiful day to be out an about.

Happy birthday to my love.

Labor Day Weekend Upstate

Another summer comes to an end.

We spent part of the long weekend upstate, first at a small county fair, then at my sister's farm.  The chicks we saw on our last visit are all grown up and structing their stuff.  The girls (goats) are as friendly as ever. And there's a new addition, Rocco the guard dog (or puppy).  It's hard to believe that this big boy is only twelve weeks old.
