Sew much to do

I love texture. And I've really admired the look of machine sewing on layouts.  My stubbornness (I DO NOT SEW), unwillingness to learn how to use a sewing machine, and, until recently, lack of space for a sewing machine, have all gotten in the way of my trying this technique.  No longer.

Santa Clause brought me this:

After a frustrating hour, in which I think I invented some new curse words, I wound a bobbin and got everything threaded, and grabbed some card stock. My first attempt (and I imagine my attempts for quite some time) was a hot mess.  I ended up covering most of my initial sewing with layers of paint and paper:

Studio Calico and Cosmo Cricket papers; Mister Huey's mist (opaque white); acrylic paint;
Tim Hotlz Sizzix die; Maya Road Metro stamps; Tim Holtz Distress Ink (chipped sapphire)

Farmhouse and Crate (Close Knit) papers; acrylic paint; Technique Tuesday
(Timber), Memory Box, and Impression Obsession stamps; Basic Grey alphas and
Carte Postal stickers; brads; SU! brown markers

Chatterbox, Jenni Bowlin, and Basic Grey papers (really digging into the old stash);
Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type alphas; SEI gold dots; Dew Drops; Bo Bunny and
misc. gold doilies; TCW and Kaisercraft stencils; Heidi Swapp Color Shine
(gold lame); Tim Holtz Sizzix die; Lawn Fawn gold twine

Holiday Joy

I consider baking to be a highly dangerous activity, and don't engage in it too often, but I have to admit, it really encourages holiday spirit.  This year I decided to contribute to the holiday table by making chocolate peppermint cookies and peanut butter crinkles.

I also amused myself with by scrapping a few more layouts from our Thanksgiving trip.

Studio Calico and Crate Close Knit papers; canvas, acrylic paint; Technique Tuesday Timber stamps; Glitz Design roller stamp; Adorni It alphas; Kaisercraft wood embellishment; washi; dew drops

Glitz Design roller stamp; Maggie Holmes and Close Knit embellishments; dew drops; Heidi Swapp alphas; Sizzix dies

Happy Holidays

Best wishes for a joyous holiday

Not an easy photo. Took quiet a few tries and never got any easier.

On a different note, I managed to knit up a hat for Glenn. The pattern is Zumthor by Kirsten Johnstone.  I used Madtosh 80/10/10 worsted in Dirty Panther.

I also worked on a couple of layouts, using some Studio Calico kits, along with TCW stencils, modeling paste, acrylic paints, and stamps from Fancy Pants and Archivers:

Southwest Revisited

A few layouts from our trip to Arizona:

Crate Close Knit papers and embellishments; AC thickers; Cosmo Cricket Tiny Type; Studio Calico word strip; Heidi Swapp Color Shine (sweet cherry);  MME decorative tape; Tim Holtz Distress Ink (broken china)

Echo Park papers; AC/Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party journaling block; Pebbles word strip; Crate Close Knit wood veneer; Sizzix butterfly dies; Twine & Ink stars; Studio Calico Mister Huey's (navy)

The "Hello" wood veneer is too heavy for the section of the layout where I placed it. When I tried to remove it, however, I discovered that the stain on the wood had bled, so it stayed where it was.

We found a great restaurant on Route 66 in the middle of nowhere.  Glenn's dish was called Mexican Flag and I wanted to use red, white and green for the background. Trying to avoid large solid blocks of color, I cut pattern paper into diamonds.  I am struggling, however, with how busy this page is. There's no grounding or place for the eye to rest.

Studio Calico and Basic Grey papers; Twine & Ink stars; Studio Calico wood veneer; Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous stamps;  Tim Holtz Ditress Ink (black soot; scattered straw); TCW stencil; acrylic paint; washi tape

Snow Day

I finished Glenn's scarf just in time, as the snow has started to fly. I knit Quay by Jared Flood using Madelinetosh 80/10/10 MCN worsted in Dirty Panther.

I also worked on a layout this morning before heading out into the white stuff:

Teresa Collins Vintage Finds and Fancy Pants Happy Go Lucky papers; bubble wrap; acrylic paint; Tim Holtz Distress Ink; Technique Tuesday Timber alpha stamps; Tattered Angles Glitter Paint

Pinterest Inspiration

Yes, I've fallen down that rabbit hole.  I was inspired to try my hands at wall art.

I found a link to this idea on Pinterest:

I used basswood canvases and wood slats instead of wood frames and coffee stirrers, and I added some pattern paper and stamping.

This is what I ended up with:

Orange Slice

I had finished a shawl before leaving for Thanksgiving, but did not get a chance to block it until last night. This is Imagine When by Joji Locatelli, which I knit in ToshMo Tomatoes. The two skeins I had were from different dye lots, so I alternated the skeins on the short row wedges.
