Hiking in Connecticut

Today we headed up to central Connecticut to hike the Metacomet Trail past two reservoirs, up to Castle Craig and back.  This 4.6 mile in-and-out hike is detailed in AMC's Best Day Hikes in Connecticut. (This book provides a good description of the hike, but the trailhead was hard to find and the short walk on Route 71 left a lot to be desired.)

While fall technically does not start until tomorrow, we were treated with some pops of early color.

I wanted to call this the creepy-crawly hike, since our wildlife spotting was limited to newts, toads, frogs, and a gigantic millipede.

Lots of beautiful sites on the trail today:

  2. Great photos! It's still close to 90 here in Texas- and as a New Englander through college, these pics make me miss the fall leaves! Although, I don't miss the winter snows!
