Customized Ocean Waves

My latest sweater is a custom design I created using Amy Herzog's Custom Fit, knit in Sliver Moon Farm Sport in Pewter.

I was really excited about this website, since I've been toying with the idea of designing my own sweaters.  I decided to knit a scoop neck pullover with an textured stitch pattern.

I did a gauge swatch, then input my gauge, measurements, and design preferences into Custom Fit, which then generated a pattern for me. The pattern was right on.   (I'm just not thrilled with the stitch pattern I chose, which is very stretchy, or the yarn, which has too much variation for my taste).

My only complaint with the pattern was that it places the body shaping in the middle, which does not work when you're using an all-over stitch pattern.   For some reason, I did not think of this before I started. Fortunately, the variation in my yarn hid the shifts in the stitch pattern.  I would, however, recommend placing the shaping on the sides if you are using an all-over stitch pattern.   (If you're knitting in stockinette, then no worries, follow the pattern as written).

And since this project was about designing a custom fit sweater, I figured I should include some photos showing that it does actually fit.

The fit is very good, its my figure I'm not thrilled with. These pictures were difficult to post and I'm going to have to look at them repeatedly as motivation to stay on my diet.   It's a slow road, but hopefully next time I try using Custom Fit I will be entering smaller measurements.

Crafty with Kraft

It's hard to believe its only been four years since I met Glenn.  We clicked instantly and fell into each other's lives so easily. And it seems we've lived a whole lifetime since we've met, so many things have happened.

Party Season

This winter has been unusually social for me. First a party on New Year's even, then my birthday party, now we're in the midst of celebrating our friends' wedding. I just finished two more layouts from the bachelorette party, sticking with the black/white/hot pink color scheme.  In this layout, I matted the photos on a pink bokeh-like paper that I created using acrylic paints left over from another project.  I really like how it came out.

papers; Heidi Swapp alphas (frosted with a white Sharpie) and Color Shine (gold lame); acrylic paints;

I seemed to have finally gotten caught up in the eighties vibe that's been dominating lately. I mixed yellow with my hot pink.  I doubt I'll use this color combination again, but it worked for the fun vibe of the evening.

The Opposite Direction

My default title "And Now for Something Completely Different" would work well today.

Lately, I've really enjoyed experimenting with new techniques involving stencils, inks, paints, modeling paste . . . the messier the merrier.  My newest layouts, however, do not use any of these media.  I'd say these layouts are simpler, but that wouldn't be true.  I've played with bright colors on grids, and there's still a lot going on.

MME, Studio Calico, Echo Park, Teresa Collins, Crate, and Farmhouse papers; Jenni Bowlin

When I finished this layout, I still had lots of pictures from the party that I wanted to scrapbook, and lots of scraps to use. I decided to turn it into a two-page layout.  My normal process is to design a two-page layout from inception, so it's a unified piece.  Here, instead, I did a fraternal page.

And then put the two together:

Lots and lots of parties this winter.  When I pulled out the last of my New Year's photos, I had Kool & the Gang's Celebration stuck in my head (and it still is.  Is it stuck in your head now?)  While I didn't use any paint or ink on this layout, I was able to add some depth and texture by layering vellum over pattern paper covered in sequins. To keep the design simple, I put the journaling to the tags.

And Now for Something Completely Different

. . . or not.  Lots accomplished during the Get It Scrapped online crop this Saturday.

Echo Park and Dear Lizzie pap(6x6 pad) papers; Prima School Memories paper; Crafter's Workshop stencils; vellum; Mister Huey's (pretty pink); Tim Holtz Distress Ink; Studio Calico labels and wood veneers; SU! heart punch; Two Peas flare; Heidi Swapp Color Shine (gold lame) and chipboard alphas

I created the background with stencils, using both ink and paint.  I hand wrote "love" overtop in dark red.  I found this color to be too distracting, so I painted over it (several times) in white.

October Afternoon (All Boy), We R Memory Keepers (Notable), and Chic Tags (School House) papers; Chic Tags label; Studio Calico camera, stickers and banners, covered in washi tap; SU! punch; MME Cut & Paste tiny word stickers
