Cherry Blossom Festival

One of the best times of year to visit New York City is April when the City springs back to life and all of the flower trees are in bloom.  It usually beings in mid-April with the Magnolias, but by the end of the month most of the fruit trees are in bloom and the daffodils and tulips have started to join in.  At the end of every April the Brooklyn Botanic Garden hosts a Cherry Blossom Festival or the Sakura Matsuri. It's a great way to spend a day with friends.

Art Journal Sunday

Hello, everyone. Today's art journal page was inspired by the Unity Stamp Company April 2015 SMAK kit.  I've decided to give a subscription a try, so I'm sure there will be a lot more stamping in my future.

After laying a foundation of bright colors using Golden paints, I used a Donna Downey numbers stencil to add a bit of texture, then added a layer of black paint for contrast. I stamped a few Unity Stamp Co. images on scrap paper added those to the page, along with some die cuts I had left over from previous projects.  I added some India ink splatter to bring the vibrant colors back up to the top layer.

Road Trip

Roadtrip weekend to Washington, D.C. After a long winter, it was time to come out of hibernation, so we headed south where spring was already in full swing and spent 24-hours exploring our nation's capital.  (And since it was our anniversary weekend, there's lots of iPhone pics of us in the mix).

Our first day we visited the National Archives and the Air & Space Museum. The next morning we took a long walk around the western edge of the National Mall and the Tidal Basin, visiting the various monuments.

Art Journal Sunday

Hello, everyone.  I'm back with another art journal page. Can't go wrong with finger painting.

After I layered several colors of Golden acrylic paint to create the background, I sprayed some Liquitex ink over a TCW stencil to add some golden texture, then stamped the butterflies and sentiment with stamps from the Unity Stamp Company. I painted in and around the butterflies with Liquitex acrylic paint in gold, and added a bit more interest with washi and torn book pages.
