Best Friends (25 years and counting)

Hello, everyone!

It's hard to believe my best friend and I have known each other for 25 years ... which means it's been almost 25 years since my senior year of high school started. Ouch!

I used a low-quality Instagram photo for this layout. Since the photo itself was a bit over exposed, I wanted to keep the layout as light as possible. I built up my layers with white modeling paste over white paper, then text on velum before bringing in the light aqua and corals. Strips of these colors at the top and bottom of the page help to frame the layout.

Supplies: Paper: Simple Stories (I Am), American Crafts (DIY Shop); Frames, Stickers and Chipboard: Simple Stories (I Am), Pebbles (Home + Made); Enamel Dots: Simple Stories (Life in Color); Stencil: Tim Holtz; Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink (pumice stone);  Die: Spellbinders; Other: modeling paste, India ink, miscellaneous label

Belated Birthday Layout

Hello, everyone!

Every year I do a layout about where I am at right now. I try to do this layout around my birthday in January, but some year's it takes me awhile.  In a way, I'm glad I delayed, because it gave me a chance to take control of a few things (like my weight issues) and be in a more positive mood when I scrapped this layout.

This layout was created for a Get It Scrapped blog article on mixing a variety of textures on a scrapbook page.  For more great ideas, check out this article here.

Supplies:  Paper: Simple Stories (Homespun), My Mind's Eye, miscellaneous cardboard; Wood Veneer: Simple Stories (I Am); Cut File: Dragon Crossing; Dies: Cuttlebug; Paint: Liquitex, Gelatos; Metal: Karen Foster; Twine: Stampin' Up!; Doily: Bo Bunny; Enamel Dots: Simple Stories (So Rad)

Here are some details shots that capture all of the textures I incorporated:

Croton Dam

The weather's shifting and I am fed up with being cooped up inside. I made an impromptu decision to escape the City for an afternoon and go exploring. Destination - Croton, New York. The spillway from the dam combines with water from the Croton River to make an amazing waterfall.

Manhattan Meetup

Hello, everyone!

I've met so many wonderful people scrapbooking, including the girls of the Manhattan Meetup. It was wonderful getting together for an afternoon just to hang out and catch up.

I decided to put the pattern paper aside for this layout and play with stamps.  I stamped several flowers on white cardstock, colored them with Copics, and them cut them out. Once I had all of the pieces ready, I placed them around my cardstock background until I was happy.

Supplies: Cardstock: Recollections; Alphas: October Afternoon (Daily Flash);  Stamps: Stamps for Life; Ink: Studio Calico, Copics; Enamel Dots: Simple Stories (So Rad); Labels: Studio Calico

Turkey Mountain

I'm very excited to be back out hiking again. A few weeks ago I was exploring trails in the southwest.  This weekend, I was out in the northeast enjoying the first signs of spring.

We stuck close to home and headed toward the Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area in Boonton, New Jersey. We scaled the 100-steps up Turkey Mountain.

At the top of the climb is a wonderful view of Lake Valhalla, followed shortly afterwards by an abandoned stone cabin, and later a small waterfall.

My initial plan was to do the Turkey Mountain Shorter Loop, but a wrong turn added a few miles. Oops. I guess I am out of practice. On the plus side, we climbed a few more hills and got extra exercise. Practice for heading up to the mountains later in the summer.

Here's a few more photographs:

Scrapping About Get It Scrapped Online Crops

Hello, everyone!

There comes a time in every scrapbooker's life when we scrap about scrapbooking. Actually, there comes many, many times. Or there should.  Because scrapping is fun and it brings us into contact with lots of other wonderful people.

The Get It Scrapped community is one place where I can hang out with other scrapbookers online.  Debbie opens up her Go To Meeting room every month or so for real-time interactive crops. The level of participation varies, from a scrolling chat box, to people with headsets who listen in and chat, to those of us who share a video feed.    Debbie took a screen shot during a recent crop, and I know I had to scrapbook it!

Supplies: Paper and Die Cuts: Shimelle; Alphas: BasicGrey (Highline); Enamel Dots: Simple Stories (So Rad); Dies: Die-namics (tag); Twine: Lawn Fawn; Stamp: Technique Tuesday (journaling lines); Ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink (abandoned coral, ground espresso); misc. washi tape
